Jeep Hiding Grand Cherokee Trackhawk’s Extra Air Intake

Jeep’s new Hellcat powered Grand Cherokee won’t be hitting showroom floors until next year but its prototype has once again been spotted in the wild with what seems to be a new supplementary air intake under that bumper camouflage.

We’re expecting to see the Hellcat supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine in the Trackhawk but we’re still unclear as to what the engine’s power output will be. The Hellcat can produce 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque but the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk may not be handle all those ponies.

Even if Jeep does detune the engine, we’re still looking at a substantial amount of power that may require additional cooling and that’s where the hidden air intake comes in. The new intake is located below the grille.

Besides the front facia, the rest of the prototype body looks like the Grand Cherokee SRT and it already looks showroom ready. WorldCarFans thinks we’ll see it hit the market in July next year so we should see an uncovered model before then. Maybe at the 2017 Geneva or New York show.

That looks ideal ... giving it to the consumer so they don't have to go elsewhere for it. Usually you see aftermarket companies introduce bumper cutout intake ducts to aid in these situations.

Makes sense to have an extra air intake to help cool the engine down. Not sure if the Hellcat engine is prone to overheat from hooning it down the road.

Only thing I've really read that's relevant to cooling issues.. but isn't specifically to this section is their Radiator hose leaking.. but that was on the 2015s so I'm sure they took care of that.

The only problem with bringing past issues up is they might not hold any weight in comparison to issues we'll see come up with the Trackhawk Cherokee. What we might see come out of the TR Cherokee could be new issues, issues related to its performance and how that's impacting things.

That's true, and that's a big window of issues that could arise.

What could go wrong with an extra air intake?

Not saying the intake would be the cause of any issues, just that this new setup in the Jeep could bring about different issues later on

I can't see how an extra air vent could affect the AWD system.
