Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Finally Debuting

Jeep has been hard at work trying to hide their Hellcat powered Grand Cherokee, but spy photographers still managed to catch its test mules on camera and now we’ll finally see the production model at the upcoming New York auto show.

Speculation of the Trackhawk’s power output ran rampant when it was first announced. Some were wondering if Jeep would detune the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine to produce around 600 horsepower. Their concerns were not without merit as the all-wheel-drive system was rumored to be unable to handle the stress and cooling was an issue as well.

Now we have word from Motor Authority saying that the Trackhawk will benefit from the Hellcat’s full 707 hp output, same as what the Challenger and Charger Hellcats have. To deliver all 707 ponies, Jeep used forged steel chain sprockets and a wider chain in the single-speed active transfer case. The automaker also used a rear electronic limited-slip differential to control the power.

With that much power on tap, it’s no wonder Jeep is calling the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk the "most powerful" and "quickest SUV ever." Hard to disagree with a claimed top speed of 180 mph and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 3.5 seconds. The cherry on top is the Trackhawk’s 7,200 pound towing capacity, something we didn't expect from a track oriented SUV.

Sources were mentioning a slight drop in torque though which shouldn't be that bad at all. As far as the towing capacity, it was kinda known it would have more than the 5000lb rated SRT8 GC considering the much higher power values
