Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Walk Around

Appearing for the first time in production form at the New York International Auto Show, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is stealing the show and it’d be remiss of Motor Authority not to take a thorough look and upload a short walk-around video.

Stuffed into this brilliant SUV is a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 and the monster has the same output as the Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcats. We’re looking at 707 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque, which are sent to its wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Combined with the Grand Cherokee’s on-demand four-wheel drive system, the Trackhawk can sprint from 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds, and it’ll top out at a clean 180mph.

Ensuring that the powertrain can handle everything the Hellcat can throw at it, Jeep engineers has reinforced everything including the full-time active transfer case, rear drive shaft and they’ve added a new stronger rear axle.

Keeping all that power in check is a set of two-piece vented 15.75-inch Brembo rotors with 6-piston calipers in the front and 13.78-inch vented rotors in the rear. That’s good enough to bring the Trackhawk from 60 mph to a dead stop in 114 feet. Of course, a set 20-inch alloy wheels wearing 3-season P Zero Scorpion Verde tires does help.

Being able to hold its own in a straight line battle is great and all, but the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is ultimately a Jeep, meaning it still has to be able to tow. Up to 7,200 pounds in fact, which is the same as the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 powered Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SRT.

Pricing and fuel economy is still unknown, but with its fourth quarter sale date approaching we should get some official numbers soon.

Hope they have plans for a Demon version because they just didn't do enough to design. Could have made it stand out a bit more. But if they can go TR on the GC, Demon should be the next step. Only question is how much longer till that happens

Can't see the Demon coming out in the next year or two. They'll wait for the hype to die down on this and perhaps if someone like BMW or Porsche come out with an SUV that's faster, they may drag out a Demon just to take the throne of the fastest SUV again.
