Thud sound upon stopping

Has anyone else experienced a slight thud sound when coming to a stop? It appears to be coming from the front end and/ or breaking system.

Dealer has had it all week and said they came up with the spare tire being loose. Got it back and at the first red light 1000 feet from the dealership the pop was still there. I was so pissed. The sound is happening while coming to a stop or when placing in gear from drive to reverse or back & forth. Also we are in upper 80 to 90 degree weather. I don't have a clue. I do know the spare tire was still loose and the plastic retainer which holds it down is cheap! Anyone please????

It sounds like your driveline and not your brakes to me. I would ask the service advisor to take a ride with you so you can demonstrate it for him. I would ask them to check your 4-wheel drive transfer case and/or your differentials. It sounds like you have some slop in your driveline somewhere which explains the “thud” sound when stopping and shifting from park to drive.

My spare tire plastic retainer was loose too, but it made a squeaking sound when hitting the brakes hard and not a “thud” sound. It was easy to figure out and once I tightened it down, it went right away.

Sorry you are experiencing this, and I hope this helps.

Update…. Yesterday the dealer called me and said FCA put a service bulletin out about the thud noise.... Said to replace the 4 rear rubber suspension bushing with new updated polyurethane ones. Waiting on them to come in. Just like I told them. It was coming from the suspension. So everyone have your ears open!

I believe I have the same issue. I can only hear it if I am backing up at more than just an idle. It happens when I am in reverse and I give it a little quick throttle. You can hear a thud or creak of some kind. It makes sense to me that it is the bushings on the suspension. Do you think this sounds like the same thing? Let me know if it resolves your issue and I will be sure to bring it up the next time I bring mine in to the dealer.

"The owner of the dealership has a Trackhawk, they want to remove his driveline and stick it in mine."

Wow, that sounds strange. I think that would technically be a used part. WTF with warranty claims after that?

I'm with you on getting your money back NOW.

Since the drive line comes from a third party and they can't tell FCA if it will be 3 weeks or 3 months this is what they have come up with. In 64 days of ownership the dealer has had it 43 of those. To say the least I'm over it!

Today they tell me the noise is back. They ordered a new sway bar. I called the SRT department and filed a claim. I'm done, also has a new exhaust leak that developed that they can't find. Also passenger side fender well to well rocker panel is out of alignment.

Mine has been making a similar sound. When I start driving from a stop, or slow down to a stop, I hear a sound that seems to be coming from the rear. I would say mine sounds like someone hitting an empty 5 gallon bucket, thud like sound. It's going to the dealer next Friday for an oil change, the cruise control issue, and I reported this sound to the dealer. We will see what happens. I have 5300 miles on it.

I'm going to tell you to let off the brake and drive it right down their throat. I have been lied to and lied to. Today they located me a new one. They have no clue on what causes the noise neither does FCA. But I will tell you when you are use to running over people and getting paid to do so they suddenly remember that and get on the bus and agree to your requests. Don't let up on them!

Guys, thud sound happening here as well. I have read all posts in this whole thread and there doesn't seem to be an actual answer. Is it the driveline or is it the suspension bushings? Or is it the wheel caps? (joke on the last one).

I know that they kept putting shop ears on everything. They told me that the sway bar replacement had made the noise go away.... At that point after 5 weeks of them having it I was done. FCA has more excuses for the problems but NO answers. I will tell you that for $100K you shouldn't have these kind of problems. Good luck. I 456 miles on the new one and it runs so much better than the Lemon. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Guys I feel your pain. The new Hawk has been in for almost 4 weeks now with antifreeze in the motor at 800 miles. FCA will not return calls and now my dealer has turned into a Pu**y I don't know if these things are doomed or it's just fiat's involvement either way I will never buy another FCA product. If you live in the southern states start blowing up the FCA Rep Gaylon Morgan you can find him on FB. Hammer down again.
