Curious what most put down for deposit on an order -- my local dealer (internet sales) said could put in order in for me below MSRP but requires a $5-10k non-refundable deposit, is that typical?

I contacted the internet sales for another local dealer that is rated well and received an email from the head of sales 4 days later telling me he had sold 5 and only had one left he would give me at MSRP + $5k market adjustment fee, I told him to pound sand.

I have heard numerous figures for the deposit. The going seems to be $5K-$10K nonrefundable. I have heard $1K numerous times and even heard $20K nonrefundable as well lol. Myself, I put down $500. All in all, if you are serious about buying it, the nonrefundable should not scare you.

If you're optioning out a vehicle to be built to your specification, then of course you need to put a deposit down on it. Unless the dealer is asking you for a larger deposit then you intended to put down on the vehicle with financing it, then it should just be a moot point. I put down 3k, and since I fully intend to take delivery of it, I actually felt more comfortable putting money down on it knowing it's mine since this is a limited model. Even though I'm not sure they've announced how limited yet.
