Jeep’s Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is anything but slow with its supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 engine, capable of delivering an remarkable 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. Paired with all-wheel drive and an upgraded TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, the car should be able to sprint from 0-60 mph 3.5 seconds and hit a tops speed of 180 mph.
Of course someone was bound to put the advertised numbers to the test, at least when it comes to the Trackhawk’s top speed. Hennessey Performance had time on their hands and a company test track, so they took the super SUV for a test run. Though not recorded, John Hennessey claims they’ve seen 0-60 mph times of 3.6 seconds, which is very impressive for what he calls a “shoebox with wheels”.
Similarly, its top speed seems to lag behind the manufacturer suggested number as you can tell from the headline. They managed to hit 175 mph at most and while some may be disappointed, the Trackhawk still managed to hit what motor1 says are “speeds usually reserved for passenger jets”.
That’s coming from a five seater vehicle with ample cargo space and their test vehicle has not been fully broken in yet, so there may be a slight increase in maximum speed after the process in completed.
