Strange noise from under floorboard/back seat

Noise has been driving me crazy, because it is not all the time. Sounds like a playing card flapping in bicycle spokes, sometime very noticeable sometimes very faint, it's not a loud sound. About the time I want to take to dealer it may completely vanish for days. Sometimes I think it sounds like a gear ratcheting ever so lightly. Could it have anything to do with the clutches in transfer case?? Electric motor mounted to transfer case, I presume this is how different % of power are distributed from front & rear. All of this happens from 10mph to 35mph after that can't hear maybe road noise drowns it out. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

We have been getting this one all the time....where's the TSB Link?
wheel clicking

Interesting but that TSB never even comes up for my TH VIN. Also we did confirm the noise in question is exactly at the coupling from rear drive shaft to transfer case so I think that one is different.

The tsb lists 2018-2020.
If yours is a 21 it might not be included. Perhaps 21’s have it from the factory?

It’s an 18 but it doesn’t come up. I’ll have the dealer check but It may not apply to TH brakes but shows not for my VIN when I look on Mopar.
Dealer did say it is the motor for the transfer case adjusting clutches, nothing can be done til service 4WD light comes on. Means replacing transfer case, not serviceable supposedly.

Well the noise is still there on mine and the actuator motor did nothing so it has to go back again. I told them the trans car probably needs to be replaced and they didn’t do that.
What do you mean nothing can be done until the service 4WD light comes on? Even with the 7 year warranty? If that’s the case I’ll just sell the truck or trade it in for something else and move on while it’s still got the warranty on it.

not gonna drive it until it actually fails just to then have it replaced when it’s clearly already “failing”

Max Care will take care of the transfer case problem, my noise comes and goes and only really hear while driving in the neighborhood. You got more done by having motor changed than most so I think if you persist enough should get a new transfer case. Keep us informed, post warranty copy of electric motor replacement so others can show dealers.

Yeah it’s going back in since the motor didn’t change anything and the ticking is loud enough it’s not right and very apparent between 25-40 mph once it’s warmed up. I’ll post how it goes when it goes back in but I’m with you I think a new transfer case is the only “fix”

If one is available, been waiting over a month for left front strut that is leaking oil.

Well I hate to say it but I decided to just give up explaining the issue to the dealer. Wirth 40,000 miles on it we traded it in for something else. It's too bad I had intentions of keeping it for quite a while but I just can't deal with going back and forth to a dealer, leaving it for a week only to drive it an hour home with the same issue. Unrelated to boot the radio was just replaced by the same dealer b/c the touch screen was delaminating on the inside and they either did not program it right, used the wrong software or the wrong radio completely becuase as we drove to trade it in the seat heat/cool functions were missing, and the dash temp up/down controls would not work at all. Honestly, yes it was a knee jerk reaction but for a $98,000 vehicle my faith in mopar quality is diminishing. I also have a 2021 Gladiator Eco Diesel which I absolutely love, but time will tell how that holds up.

Cheers everyone and enjoy your rides.....

Try your O'**** handle. Mine does something similar and one day I reached over the passenger seat and pressed it up, and it quit. Kinda like a faint vibration or rattle sound.

It is the clutch packs in transfer case, finally got a service writer to acknowledge it's a know problem, nothing to do but wait for Service 4WD light comes on.

No letter, Service Writer at dealership was the person that told me. I have changed my fluid in transfer case at 24K have not noticed the clicking as much. Cheap fix only need ATF 4, just over 1 quart of fluid, use the fill plug that is toward drive line not the one above drain plug.

Sorry, my english is not that good.
You only changed the ATF fluid and then the noise went away?

It helped, haven't heard the noise for a while. Like I said cheap insurance change the fluid. There is a electric motor that adjusts clutch pack in transfer case to distribute power to front & back. Don't know how many miles you have on yours.

I have about 17k miles.

Don't know what it costs for Mopar ATF+4, 2 quarts, think it takes 1.2 or 1.4 quarts
